Zurich Insurance

Zurich is one of the world's largest composite insurers with customers in more than 170 countries. Its business is concentrated in three distinct business segments: General Insurance, Global Life and Farmers. The Farmers business segment is US based and consists of two elements. Firstly, it is a financial services company, offering administration and management services to the Farmers Exchanges (primary insurers which are policyholder owned). This is effectively a fee based model with Zurich receiving a fee as a percentage of gross premiums earned by the Farmers Exchanges. Secondly, Zurich reinsures a portion of the risks underwritten by Farmers Exchanges (a quota share) through Farmers Re. On a segmental basis, the split between Life and Non-Life insurance was stable YoY at 32% and 68% respectively (FY15: 29% and 71%). (02 Nov 2017)
