NongHyup Bank

NongHyup Bank is owned by NongHyup Financial group which is in turn owned by the NACF - National Agricultural Co-operatives Federation. NACF is 100% owned by its member cooperatives which represent virtually all of Korea's farmers. Under the NACF Act, the government has the statutory authority to guarantee NACF and NH Bank bonds; but to-date the bank has not needed this and thus the government has not explicitly done so. The Korean government provides some subsidies to the bank to facilitate its agricultural-related policy lending. NACF has itself made periodic capital injections into NHB whose profitability and hence internal capital generation is weak. In summary, NongHyup Bank is main banking unit of Korea's agricultural co-operative sector and plays a partly commerclal and partly policy role in Korea's financial system. NHB has 1,150 branches and also conducts business through 4,700 co-operative offices. it has branches in New York and Hanoi and a micro-finance subsidiary in Myanmar. (24 Aug 2018)
