KPN

KPN is the Netherlands' incumbent telecom operator. The key shareholder is America Movil although its stake has reduced to 16% stake as of 3Q18. AMX has been a key shareholder since its takeover attempt in 2013 that was ultimately prevented due to the exercise of the KPN's Foundation Preference Shares call option. Following the sale of E-Plus (Germany), BASE (Belgium) and now also iBasis (International), KPN is entirely dependent on its domestic market. Organisational structure is based on customer type, with >50% of revenue coming from the consumer business, just <40% from B2B and the remainder from Wholesale. The group covers the majority of the country with FttX and LTE connectivity. The other main asset is its remaining stake (5.2%) in Telefonica Deutschland, which it is slowly reducing, distributing proceeds largely to shareholders. Maximo Ibarra (previous CEO of Wind Italy) became CEO in April 2018, replacing Eelco Blok, who had been in the role since 2011. The current strategy is based on three pillars: 'Simplify-Grow-Innovate' as the company focuses on remaining the leading ICT supplier in the Netherlands. (30 Oct 2018)
