ASR Nederland

ASR Nederland or ASR for short, was formed in 2008 when the insurance businesses of Fortis's Dutch operation or better known as Fortis ASR was nationalised by the Dutch government during the financial crisis of 2007/08. As part of the bailout, the Dutch government became ASR's only shareholder and renamed the insurer as ASR Nederland. ASR has completed its IPO in 1H17 is no longer owned by the Dutch government. In the Dutch insurance market, ASR operates as a Composite insurer, with its premiums in Non-Life and Life split roughly 60% and 40% respectively. Its core brands include a.s.r., De Amersfoortse and Ditzo. Within the Non-Life business segment, products offered by ASR include Motor, Fire, Travel & Leisure, Liability, Legal assistance, Occupational Disability and Medical expenses. In fact, ASR is known to be the market leader in Occupational Disability in the Netherlands holding a 22% market share with Achmea and NN Group as its closest competitors, each with a 19% share of the market. In Life, ASR focuses mainly on Protection products like Funeral expense insurance and Pension. (16 Jul 2018)
